| David Smith started collecting theatre ephemera in the early 1960s as a hobby. Due to the wealth of duplication he started dealing in 1986 in the Chelsea Antiques Market, Kings Road, London. In 1996 this was closed for redevelopment and Castaside restarted in Alfies in June 1997.
Stock includes theatre ephemera, posters, programmes, brochures, leaflets and flyers, all late Victorian to current and mainly West End. He does not stock ballet or opera.
David Smith has been referred to by an American magazine as a "magician pulling programmes out of his boxes".
